Golf: Jacobs wins state amateur title

Vanderbilt golfer Sarah Jacobs came up big Saturday in the Women's Tennessee Amateur Championship. The sophomore from Whites Creek scored a one-stroke victory over 17-year-old Holly Cantwell of Morristown to take home the state's top amateur golf prize.

Jacobs and Cantwell went into the final hole tied.  But Jacobs, who had won two individual state high school championships at Davidson Academy, parred on the par-5 18th at the Toqua Golf Club in Loudon, then looked on as Cantwell bogeyed.

"This is amazing - I can't even begin to describe it," Jacobs told the Knoxville News-Sentinel. "I've always wanted to win this tournament and to finally do it is something else. It hasn't really sunk in yet so I can't really say how it feels." Top Stories
