Scouting Georgia
Georgia (21-11, 5-7 SEC) enters the weekend having lost six of its last nine games, including an 8-2 decision to No. 14 Georgia Tech on Wednesday. Two of the three wins in this span, however, were against No. 3 Mississippi State in Starkville last weekend.
Catcher Jason Jacobs leads the team with a .346 batting average, while first baseman Josh Morris is the top power source with 10 homers and 30 RBI. The Bulldogs are hitting an even .300 as a team with 39 homers and 221 runs scored in 32 games (6.9 runs per contest).
Georgia's pitching rotation for this weekend will be righthander Brooks Brown (3-3, 3.83 ERA) on Friday, lefthander Mickey Westphal (3-0, 4.28 ERA) on Saturday and righty Trevor Holder (2-1, 5.10 ERA) on Sunday. UGA has one of the premier closers in the country in righthander Joshua Fields (2-0, 1.17 ERA, 6 saves). The Bulldogs sport a 4.74 team ERA with 227 strikeouts and 101 walks in 286 innings.
Series Notes: Georgia has won four out of the last five series dating back to 2001, including series sweeps from 2001-03 ... the Commodores broke the streak in 2004 when they swept four games including one in the opening round of the SEC tournament ... Vanderbilt holds a 40-33 series advantage in games played in Nashville ... the first two games of last year's series were both decided in the ninth inning.

Pedro Power
Eight games ago, freshman Pedro Alvarez was putting in a solid campaign with a .309 batting average to go along with three homers and 14 RBI in 26 games. Since that time the New York City product has been on fire hitting .455 (15-for-33) with eight homers and 18 RBI to go along with 14 runs scored. He had four hits in two games this week and all four were homers that went over 400 feet. Pedro had two homers against Western Kentucky on Tuesday and followed that up with two against Lipscomb on Saturday. Both of those shots were in the same inning, tying an NCAA record set by several players. He is not just hitting non-conference opposition as he carries a team best .449 batting average in SEC play into the weekend. Alvarez currently leads the conference in walks (33) and is second in homers (11). He needs four homers to break into Vanderbilt's single season top 10 (15).

Commodore Tidbits
The team continues to win with youth as eight of the nine position starters are underclassmen (6 Sophomores, 2 Freshmen) and all three weekend starting pitchers were sophomores this week (David Price, Cody Crowell and Ty Davis) ... The freshman duo of Pedro Alvarez and Ryan Flaherty have led the Commodores over the last 10 games. Alvarez is hitting .450 (18-for-40) with eight homers, 18 RBI and 17 runs scored, while Flaherty is hitting .421 (16-for-38) with three doubles, nine RBI and nine runs scored ... Brian Hernandez went 6-for-13 last week with a double and three runs scored ... Freshman Brett Jacobson is now 2-0 on the year after picking up the win over Lipscomb on Wednesday ... Tyler Rhoden lowered his season ERA to 0.87 after picking up the win in Tuesday's game against WKU. He did not allow an earned run in 6.2 innings of work ... Freshman reliever Nick Christiani pitched 6.1 innings of two hit scoreless relief in three appearances last week and now has a 1.16 ERA in 14 appearances on the year ... Cameron Betourne picked up his first career win against Austin Peay with two innings of scoreless relief last Wednesday ... Pitcher Ty Davis made his first career start in SEC play against Arkansas on Sunday ... All-American and National Pitcher of the Year candidate David Price threw another masterpiece in SEC play, striking out a career high 17 batters in the Commodores 7-1 win on Friday over #12 Arkansas. He is 4-0 in the SEC with a 0.56 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 32.0 innings. Vanderbilt leads the SEC with a 2.65 team ER, which is good for fifth in the nation ... The Commodores .302 batting average in SEC games is third best in the league.
