Jonathan Loyte makes his choice

VandyMania has learned from very reliable sources that superstar tight end/defensive end prospect Jonathan Loyte has committed to play football for Vanderbilt. Here are some questions and answers from Jonathan just before he committed.

VandyMania: Jon thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions. We know you are very busy this time of year getting ready for football season. You are considered a top prospect at both the tight end and defensive end positions. Which position do you prefer to play in college and why?

Jonathan Loyte: TE because I feel I have great athletic ability, Size, Speed, and great hands DE is a lot of fun because I enjoy laying a good hit on someone, OL is great because you have a lot of responsibility however I really would leave it up to the coaches as to how I could most help the TEAM I just love the game and appreciate the opportunity to play at such a high level.

VM: You recently revealed to recruiting analyst Max Emfinger that the top eight schools you are considering are Vanderbilt, Boston College, Maryland, Rutgers, North Carolina, Syracuse, and Michigan State. Were the teams listed in order of preference or were the teams just randomly listed?

JL: DEFINITELY in order of Favorites!

VM: You visited Vanderbilt in June. Please tell us a little about how the visit went, some of the activities you did and who you met.

JL: My dad and I spent 2 days in Nashville seeing the campus and the City. I had a chance to talk to some of the Students and Players and they all seemed very warm, friendly and excited about Vanderbilt and the direction of the Football Program. I had an opportunity to meet Chancellor Gee and I was very impressed with the support he has given to the new Coaching staff and the major improvements and Commitments that have been made in the Football Program as well as in the Football Facilities.

I also had a chance to meet all of the coaching staff at Vanderbilt and I was extremely impressed with every one of them. They made me feel like they are an extension of my family.

Of special notice I would like to say that Coach Ryan McSwain who has been recruiting me from the beginning has been extremely helpful, persistent (HA HA ) and informative. I feel that he has been a major influence in increasing my level of awareness and appreciation for Vanderbilt.

VM: Speaking of Vanderbilt, what are some of the things you like about Vanderbilt?

JL: The Campus is second to none and rates right up there with some of the schools I have visited. But none have impressed me and made me feel more comfortable than Vanderbilt. Those include Stanford, Maryland, Boston College, and Syracuse and others. We had actually planned our trip to include stops at Duke, UNC, and South Carolina after we had left Vanderbilt but 3.5 hours into the drive I asked my Dad to go back to Vandy. I wanted to watch The players on Monday workout on their summer conditioning. That is where Coach McSwain introduced me to all the players in attendance approx 45 which really impressed me.

The Players were extremely welcoming and friendly and genuinely seem to like each other. They all seem to believe that Vanderbilt is heading in the right direction and all are excited about the new coaching staff and facilities.

VM: Your senior high school football season is rapidly approaching. What are some of your goals as a player for the 2002 football season?

JL: To get myself into the best shape of my life so that I am able to play at an even higher level my senior season. If I can do that for myself then I will better be able to help my football team win the Massachusetts Division 1 State Football Championship.

We have a tremendous team with tons of talent from the scout team right up through the starters. It's going to be Exciting to be a part of.

VM: Jonathan thanks for your time. We wish you the best of luck during your senior season and in your choice of colleges.
