Vanderbilt led 8-4 going into the eighth inning before Lipscomb rallied for three runs in the frame. They had a bases loaded walk off of reliever Casey Weathers and scored two more on a single by Patrick O'Rourke.
They then tied the game with another bases loaded walk in the ninth and took the lead on Whit Reed's bases clearing double to left.
Stephen Shao (2-2) was charged with the loss after giving up four runs on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts in an inning of relief.
Brandon McClurg improved to 4-2 with two innings of two-hit scoreless relief.
Pedro Alvarez staked the Commodores to a 1-0 lead in the first with a solo homer to right, his 15th of the year and first in 10 games. He ended the day 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored.
Lipscomb tied it in the third on a RBI double by Tadd Brewer. The Commodores put up four runs in the bottom half to extend the lead to 5-1. Shea Robin had a RBI single and Ryan Davis added a two-run single to lead the way.
Caleb Joseph had a RBI single in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-2. Nathan Sensing's two-run single in the fifth cut the Vanderbilt lead to 5-4.
David Price pitched two innings of perfect baseball, with two strikeouts in his first midweek start of the year.
Brian Hernandez chipped in with three hits and Kurt Lipton added two to help lead Vandy's offense on the afternoon.
The Commodores travel to Baton Rouge to take on LSU this weekend in SEC action. The teams will open the three-game series at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
