Vanderbilt offers Alabama quarterback

Prattville quarterback Larry Smith is the pre-season top signal-caller in the state of Alabama for the class of 2007. He talks of the Lions spring game against Murphy, and he received his first SEC offer.

I did really good in the spring game," said Larry Smith from Prattville, (Ala.). "I was 23-31 for 219 yards. We won the game 14-6. I didn't throw any touchdowns but, I ran one in on a quarterback sneak."

Louisville extended a scholarship offer early in the recruiting process, and the Commodores have jumped on board as well.

"I received an offer from Vanderbilt about three weeks ago," Smith said. "It's a real nice offer. They have a great academic school. They have had a couple great quarterbacks come through like Jay Cutler."

When asked other schools showing interest Smith replied, "I am hearing mainly from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Memphis, LSU, Florida State and Florida. I want to keep all of my options open for now. I don't have any favorites."

Smith looks forward to official visits and will take several unoffical visits during the season. The time-frame for his decision is uncertain.

"Once I visit all the schools then I will decide," he said. "I don't want to rush into anything but, I don't want to wait until the last second."
