The Vanderbilt Commodores face Michigan in Atlanta today in the first round of the NCAA tournament. This is Vandy's second trip to the NCAA in the last three years. Stetson and Georgia Tech are also in Vanderbilt's bracket.

Vanderbilt will embark on its fifth NCAA appearance and second in the last three years this weekend at the Atlanta Regional. The Commodores, the No. 2 seed in the double-elimination tournament, will take on No. 3 seed Michigan on Friday at 3 p.m. ET at Russ Chandler Stadium. If VU wins they will face the winner of the No. 1 seed Georgia Tech/No. 4 seed Stetson game on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. If VU loses, they will face the loser of that contest in an elimination game on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.

Tournament ticket books for the NCAA Atlanta Regional are on sale now at, and can be also purchased in person at the Georgia Tech Office, Tuesday through Thursday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., or at the gate, beginning Friday at 1:30 p.m. Tournament books, including tickets for all seven sessions, are priced at $84 for a reserved chairback seat, $70 for a reserved bench seat between first and third base, and $56 for a general admission bleacher seat.
Commodore NCAA Tournament History
Vanderbilt is making its fifth NCAA tournament appearance this weekend and will look to win its second regional championship in the last three years. The Dores are 6-8 all-time in NCAA play and made the field in 1973, 1974, 1980 and 2004. In 2004, VU swept three games at the Charlottesville, Va. Regional, before falling to eventual runner-up Texas in a Super Regional in Austin. Only three current players saw action that year: RHP Matt Buschmann (two games), RHP Tyler Rhoden (one inning in relief against Texas) and Rucker Taylor (one AB vs. Princeton).
Scouting Michigan
Michigan is 42-19 on the year, after winning the Big 10 regular season and tournament championships. It is the second straight year that they have made the NCAA tourney and traveled to Atlanta and it is the second straight 40-win season under fourth-year head coach Rich Maloney.

First baseman Nate Recknagel leads the team with a .372 batting average to go along with seven homers, 17 doubles and 37 RBI. Leftfielder Mike Schmidt is the team's top power source with 10 homers and 39 RBI. The Wolverines are hitting .302 as a team with 35 homers and 357 runs scored in 61 games (5.8 runs per game).
Friday's starter has yet to be determined as of Wednesday. UM has four pitchers in the running for weekend starts: LHP Paul Hammond (7-4, 2.52 ERA), RHP Chris Fetter (5-1, 1.89 ERA), RHP Zach Putnam (6-1, 2.10 ERA) and LHP Drew Taylor (6-4, 5.17 ERA). Michigan sports a 4.04 team ERA entering the tournament with 333 strikeouts and 197 walks in 507.1 innings pitched.
Scouting Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech is 45-16 on the season and are ranked as high as No. 4 in the country entering the weekend. The Yellow Jackets are hosting a regional for the fifth straight season and are the No. 8
national seed.
First baseman Whit Robbins leads a potent offensive attack with a .367 batting average to go with 12 homers and 62 RBI. Georgia Tech has five players with 10 or more homers in the everyday lineup and are batting .319 as a team with 78 homers and 546 runs scored in 61 games (8.9). Righthander Blake Wood (9-4, 5.02 ERA) has made 16 starts to lead the Yellowjackets, while fellow righty Matt Weiters (1-2, 2.83 ERA) is the top reliever with six saves and 32 strikeouts in 28.2 innings. The team has a 4.49 ERA with 450 strikeouts and 214 walks in 542.2 innings pitched this year.
Scouting Stetson
Stetson is 38-22 on the year and represent the Atlantic Sun Conference after winning the tournament championship last weekend.
The Hatters are making their sixth NCAA tournament in the last seven years and the 15th apearance in school history.  Chris Johnson is the top Hatter hitter, batting at a .371 clip with 11 homers and 64 RBI. Stetson is hitting .300 as a team with 31 homers, 107 doubles and 376 runs scored in 60 games (6.3 per game.)
The Hatters have five pitchers with six or more wins on the year. Righthander Robbie Elsemiller (7-3, 2.57 ERA) leads the team in wins, while also recording 14 saves in 36 appearances on the year. Stetson has a 4.02 team ERA to lead all tourney teams, with 395 strikeouts and 182 walks in 537.0 innings pitched. Top Stories
