Women's Hoops: Balcomb completes staff

Vanderbilt women's basketball head coach Melanie Balcomb has completed her staff with the hiring of Nikki Kremer as the Director of Basketball Operations.

Kremer played for four years at Xavier under Coach Balcomb and graduated in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education. She is Xavier's all-time assists leader and was named to the first team All-Atlantic10 her senior year.

Following graduation, she played basketball in Europe for four months until her fifth knee surgery forced an end to her professional career. She then returned to Cincinnati, where she taught and coached at Colerain High school.

She joins the three assistant coaches already named by Coach Balcomb:

Assistant Coach Stephanie Norman is the new recruiting co-ordinator. She is the "west coast connection" for the team, having spent most of her life on the west coast. After graduating from Arizona State in 1989, she was an assistant at the University of British Columbia, then was a graduate assistant at the University of Hawaii while completing her master's degree. For seven years she was an assistant coach at Oregon, where she helped recruit four high school All-Americans and three Top-20 recruiting classes. Prior to coming to Vanderbilt, she was an assistant coach for two years at Oregon State.

Assistant Coach Vicki Picott graduated from Rutgers in 1992, where she is No.3 all-time in scoring, rebounding and steals and was named first team All-Atlantic 10 twice. After college, she played profesionally overseas, and served as an assistant coach for five years at Temple University before joining Coach Balcomb's staff at Xavier in 2000. Her connection with Coach Balcomb pre-dates college. Balcomb coached Picott in a summer league before she entered ninth grade, and Picott broke Balcomb's scoring record at Hightstown (N.J.) High School.

Assistant Coach Kristin Schneider graduated from Millersville in 1994. After graduation, she was an assistant coach with Coach Balcomb at Ashland University. When Balcomb accepted the head coaching job at Xavier, Schneider joined her as an assistant on the coaching staff and was promoted to the #2 position in 1998.
