DICKSON, Tenn.-- Vanderbilt golfer Courtney Wood fired her second consecutive one-under par 71 at GreyStone Golf Club to win the fourth annual Fluffo Women's Tennessee Open Championship on Wednesday.
In addition to Wood, two other members of the Vanderbilt women's team turned in impressive showings at GreyStone. Fellow Commodore Sarah Jacobs finished tied for second at 145 (+1), while Joni Gossett finished in a tie for fifth place at 147 (+3).
Wood's score of 142 (-2) broke the previous Women's Tennessee Open scoring record of 143 (Erin Kurczewski in 1999) by one shot. The rising junior from Brentwood also captured the Trans-National Women's Amateur Championship in Lincoln, Neb. this past weekend.
Wood transferred to Vanderbilt from Texas Christian University last summer after being honored as the WAC's Freshman of the Year in 2000-2001.
Remarkably, Wood's win marks the fourth individual championship won by a member of Vanderbilt's women's team this summer. Wood also won the Trans National Amateur; Jacobs captured the Tennessee State Women's Amateur title in June; and incoming freshman May Wood of Signal Mountain, Tenn. won the North-South Amateur in Pinehurst, N.C. earlier this month.
