Star Georgia CB picks Commodores

In yet another coup for the Vanderbilt coaching staff, VandyMania has learned that standout cornerback Johnny Edwards has picked Vanderbilt. Edwards is ranked a three star prospect by TheInsiders.com and ranked as the number 38 cornerback prospect in the United States.

Edwards chose Vandy over offers from Stanford, Wake Forest, and Duke. The 5-9, 170 pound prospect was also being courted by Notre Dame, Ohio State, Georgia and Arkansas.

The Starrs Mill High School (Fayetteville, GA) standout had 60 tackles and 6 interceptions during his junior campaign. He has been timed at 4.45 in the 40-yard dash.

The Edwards commit brings the number of verbal commitments for Vanderbilt to four.

Marcus Dixon, 6-6, 260, DE; Lindale, GA
Johnny Edwards, 5-9, 170, CB; Fayetteville, GA
Greg Jacobs, 6-3, 255, DE; Fork Union, VA
Jonathan Loyte, 6-6, 250; TE, Danvers, MA

Verbal commits are non-binding. Under NCAA rules coaches may not comment on prospects until after the prospects have signed a letter of intent. National signing day is in February 2003.
