Monday football practice notes

Monday the Vanderbilt Commodores continued preparations for their 2002 season opener at Georgia Tech.

Today was probably the hottest day of practice so far. They now have the green wall up along the fence on Natchez Trace, but fans are still allowed to come to practice. Spectators are no longer allowed to watch practice sessions from behind the fence.
Before practice this afternoon Vanderbilt Head Coach Bobby Johnson was working with the punters and kickers. He was chasing down balls and throwing them back and even attempted to catch one with his hands behind his back.

Running backs Norval McKenzie and Ronald Hatcher, who will be counted on for much of the Commodore's rushing production, were both in regular jerseys today after several days in a red jersey due to injuries.

The quarterback position is still undecided after a draw performance for the signal callers on Saturday. The two best plays of the day were a long pass from junior Benji Walker to true freshman Grant Brigham and a very similar play from red shirt freshman Jay Cutler to sophomore Brandon Smith.

Greg Johnson still seems to be a little inconsistent but he has a great future as punter and possibly kicker.
Top Stories
