Scouting Alabama A&M
Friday's game against Vanderbilt marks the third consecutive road game for Alabama A&M (5-5). The Bulldogs lost both of their previous games prior to the Holiday break, dropping an 82-55 decision at Nebraska on Dec. 17 and falling 81-57 at Ole Miss on Dec. 22. Alabama A&M has played one other Southeastern Conference member this season, losing 80-36 at Georgia on Nov. 24.
The Bulldogs are young with eight freshmen and 10 underclassmen on their 15-man roster.
Freshman guard Cornelius Hester leads the squad, averaging 11.2 points. His 26 3-pointers are a team-high. Fellow freshman guard Trant Simpson leads the squad in assists (5.4 apg) and ranks second in scoring (9.8 ppg). Junior forward Mickell Gladness lurks in the paint, averaging a team-best 7.4 rebounds and 5.2 blocks.
The Bulldogs were 13-13 overall last season, finishing the regular season on a five-game win streak before dropping their opening game in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament to Arkansas Pine Bluff.
