5 minutes with Vanderbilt's Drew Brenk

Red shirt freshman Drew Brenk is an up and coming offensive lineman who will vie for playing time in the fall. VandyMania spoke with Brenk just before the Black and Gold scrimmage.

VM: Drew, how has spring practice been going for you?

DB: It's been going good. Since I played all last season on the scout team it's different to come out here and be able to compete for a job.

VM: So do you think you are going to get some playing time this year?

DB: Yes, I think so. I'm trying to find a position at guard or tackle; I've been playing both all spring. I think if I do my techniques and everything today I have a good shot at getting some playing time.

VM: What has Coach Caldwell been telling you?

DB: He's telling me I've been doing a lot better, that I'm showing a lot of improvement from fall. He's expecting some big things from me.

VM: What about the other guys on the offensive line; we know about the regular starters but who are some of the other guys that could get some playing time?

DB: I think Ryan Custer, now that he's back on offense, I think he and Eames are going to mix it up a lot at the left guard spot. Drew Gardner and Ryan Vance, they are both competing pretty hard for the right guard spot to back up Merritt.
