Baseball: LSU visits Vanderbilt

David Price struck out 15 batters as Vanderbilt defeated LSU, 4-1, to win the 2007 Southeastern Conference Baseball Championship. Ole Miss defeated Arkansas, 5-4, to eliminate any possibility of a tie between Vanderbilt and the Hogs for the title. More to come!

ON THE MOUND:
Vanderbilt pitchers boast a 3.59 team ERA (.240 batting average allowed) compared to LSU's 5.11 ERA (.272 batting average allowed). Casey Weathers (5 saves, 2.31 ERA) is the closer for the Commodores while Jared Bradford (5 saves, 4.35 ERA) is usually the finisher for LSU. Vandy's Ty Davis (3.20 ERA) has performed well in relief over the past few weeks.

The Tigers have struggled somewhat at the plate this season but have shown improvement during their series win at Arkansas. The Tigers have a .259 team batting average and 39 home runs. LSU's Blake Dean (.328 BA) leads the Tigers with 7 home runs and 44 RBIs. Michael Hollander (.293 avg) has 25 RBI and 5 home runs.

Vanderbilt counters with a .329 team batting average and 51 home runs. The Commodores are paced by Pedro Alvarez (.381) and RF Dominic de la Osa (.383). On Tuesday Alvarez was named to the U.S. National team for the second year in a row.

Vanderbilt is 28-2 in home games this season. LSU is 9-9 on the road this season. LSU leads the all time series, 47-27. LSU's Paul Mainieri is 1-0 versus Vanderbilt.
