Commodore Taylor Thompson

Taylor Thompson, a three-star tight end from Prosper, Texas, is committed to Vanderbilt and recruited to play defense for the Commodores. Thompson talks about Vanderbilt and his future position in the SEC.

"I committed to Vanderbilt because of the academics," said Taylor Thompson. "The academics are really good at Vanderbilt. I am looking at life after football. A degree from Vanderbilt would be outstanding."

"I really liked the coaching staff. I feel really comfortable around them. I think I fit in good with them. Coach [Warren] Belin was my recruiting coach. I really like him. He is a nice guy."

"I went up there and visited about two or three weeks before I committed. I thought it was a really nice campus. They have very good facilities. The weight room is nice as well. They are building new dorms that will be ready when I get there. They are going to be very nice."

The 6-6, 230-pound prospect was recruited to play on the defensive side of the ball. Thompson recorded a 4.75 in the 40-yard dash and a 4.33 in the short shuttle. He will bring a lot of speed and quickness to the Commodores.

"They recruited me to play defensive end. I don't mind playing defense at all. I like tight end and defensive end the same," Thompson said.

"I feel my biggest strengths as a defender are my size and speed. I am trying to gain more weight before I get to college."

Thompson is finished with his recruitment and is 100-percent committed to Vanderbilt.
