Arizona CB Keeping Vanderbilt in Mind

With an impressive list of scholarship offers on the table and with perhaps several more to follow, Chandler HS cornerback Marc Anthony certainly doesn't have a lack of options. One of his latest scholarship offers comes from Vanderbilt; read inside to see where the Commodores currently stand with the Arizona cornerback.

Marc Anthony Profile

After officially breaking the ice, we asked the 6-0, 185 pound corner to give us a brief rundown of his summer. "This summer went really well for me," Anthony said. "I was able to go out to a couple of one day camps. Actually this summer was when I picked up most of my offers; so I really got a lot accomplished."

One particular scholarship offer that the Chandler High star received this past summer was from Coach Bobby Johnson, and the Vanderbilt Commodores. "Just out of the blue I got a phone call from a weird area code that I had never seen before," Anthony said. "It was a coach from Vanderbilt calling to let me know that he had watched my highlight film and liked what he saw. After he watched the film, he gave it to the secondary coach, and then to the head coach to view. After a few weeks passed, I gave them a call back. They basically told me that they were in need of a few corner backs, and that their depth chart was a little low in that area. During our telephone conversation, they offered me a scholarship."

When asked about his familiarity on Vanderbilt's defensive/team strategy, Anthony seemed a bit uncertain. However the weekend of September 8th should clear up any uncertainties that the talented 6-foot corner may have about the Commodores. Anthony managed to squeeze Vandy into an extremely hectic schedule to check them out up close and personal. "I have set up quite a few visits already for the month of September," Anthony said. "I am planning on going to the Cal and Tennessee game on September 1st, the Vanderbilt and Alabama game on the 8th, the Nebraska and USC game on the 15th, and the Michigan and Penn State match-up on the 22nd ."

With a vast array of programs on his list such as Michigan, Nebraska, Cal, Arizona State, Washington, Boise State, and Illinois… it should be very intriguing to Commodore fans to know that Anthony kept Vandy in mind.

The start of a new season is rapidly approaching and Anthony has already set aside a few attainable goals for the 2007 season. "I have two goals for this season," Anthony said. My first goal is to be the best defensive back in the state of Arizona so that whenever I graduate, that's who I'll be known as. My second goal is to leave my high school as the all-time career leader in interceptions. I need two interceptions to tie, and three to break the record." will continue to keep you posted with the latest on corner back Marc Anthony. Top Stories
