After making an early commitment to the Commodores, several programs have been trying to get involved with 6-5, 268 pound big man. VandyMania.com went head up with Richard Cagle to see how he has been handling things.
Richard Cagle Q&A
SM: You made a verbal commitment to Vanderbilt quite some time ago. How firm is it with them currently?
RC: It's extremely firm. I love Vandy, and I am very happy with my early decision.
SM: To my understanding, several other programs have been coming after you since you made your decision. Is that true, and if so how have you been handling it?
RC: Oh yeah, I've had some other schools looking at me pretty hard. Some of the schools have offered, and a few of them said that they were going to offer. I've been really firm with all of them. I told them that I was really happy with Vanderbilt, and that there wasn't a whole lot that was going to change my mind.
SM: Let's talk a little bit about your high school team, St. Pius X. Last year you guys made a very impressive run, and managed to bring home the state title. How have you guys been doing this season?
RC: We are doing pretty good this season. We are 9-2 right now, and we are looking really good in the playoffs. We won our first (playoff) game, and I believe we have a good shot to go all the way again this year.
SM: How has your performance been on the field this season?
RC: Pretty good. Earlier in the season, I had a little bit of a bummed up ankle that slowed me down for a game or two. Other than that, I think I did pretty well this year.
SM: Do you have any plans and/or goals in mind upon the conclusion of your (football) season?
RC: After football season, I will definitely be hitting the gym, working out, and running to prepare myself to come in as a freshman at Vanderbilt.
From the sound of things you can tell that Cagle's commitment is 100% solid, and that he is not considering any other programs. He seems extremely excited about his future as a Commodore to say the least. You have to give the Vandy coaching staff their "Props" for staying on top of their game…
