VU Student-Athletes Host Holiday Party

On Friday morning, Vanderbilt student-athletes hosted their annual Holiday Party on the practice court in Memorial Gym. Special invited guests for the party were first graders from one of Nashville's public schools. Whitney D shares these photos from the party.

Every year on "Reading Day", the day between the last day of classes and the first day of final exams, the Student-Athlete Advisory Council sponsors a Holiday Party. Student athletes from all sports pool their money to buy presents for the students from Nashville public schools who are invited to the party.

Cherice Robertson (Track and Field) was wearing the perfect hat for the occasion, mixing the black and gold of Vanderbilt with the red and green of Christmas.

Remember waiting for Santa Claus when you were little? George Drake (Men's Basketball) and Keegan Bell (Men's Basketball) waited for Santa once again . . . but this time, they were Santa's helpers, looking forward to the arrival of the guests.

Alan Metcalfe (Men's Basketball) and Evan Dufaux (Men's Tennis) shot some hoops while they were waiting.

With the arrival of the guests, it was time to get the party started.

"Who's got a beard that's long and white?" It must be Santa, Santa Claus!

First, Santa (who looked a lot like Adam Smotherman, defensive tackle) read "The Night Before Christmas" with the assistance of his Chief Elf (who looked a lot like defensive lineman Bo Cramer).

Then it was time to give out the presents. Santa had gotten some help from the student-athletes, who contributed the money for the presents, went shopping for them, wrapped them, and put them in bags all ready for Santa to deliver to the recipients.

Santa and the Chief Elf made the rounds around the gym greeting the guests and posing for photos, including this one with Pedro Alvarez (Baseball).

With the presents unwrapped and the pizza eaten, it was time for some serious partying – including dancing.

Jonathan White (Baseball) and Liz Sherwood (Women's Basketball) played a little one-on-one.

Festus Ezeli (Men's Basketball) was credited with an assist on this dunk.

Mallory Hitt (Track and Field) got a makeover from one of the guests.

Amy Malo (Women's Basketball) proved that those hours in the weight room really do pay off.

Karen Grygiel (Bowling) painted a butterfly on the face of one of the guests.

Jessica Mooney (Women's Basketball) and Jen Risper (Women's Basketball) chatted with the guests . . .

. . . and tried their hand at the fishing game.

When the clock struck noon, it was time for the party to come to an end, and the guests left the gym with smiles on their faces.
