M. Golf:VU third, Snedeker first after two rounds

Vanderbilt's record-setting season continued Monday in Knoxville, Tenn., where the Commodores finished the first two rounds of the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions one shot out of the lead in third place and Brandt Snedeker finished the first day tied for first place. The Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions is being played at the par-72, 6,932-yard Holston Hills Country Club.

The Commodores fired rounds of six-under-par 282 and nine-under-par 279 to finish the first 36 holes with a 15-under-par score of 561. Both rounds are the best since recording a 12-under-par 268 in the final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship. Vanderbilt has now extended its school-record streak of below-par rounds to seven.

Individually, Snedeker continues his torrid pace with rounds of three-under-par 69 and six-under-par 66 to complete his first day with a nine-under-par 135. He is tied with Tennessee's David Skinns and College of Charleston's Bruce McDonald for first place and the trio has a two-shot advantage on the field. The senior from Nashville has now carded seven consecutive rounds in the 60s and nine of his 10 rounds this season have been below par.

Senior Craig Dunlap and sophomore Lance Goodson were the next finishers for Vanderbilt as they both posted two-under-par scores of 142 to finish tied for 14th place.

Sophomore Mark Donnell is beginning to get back to playing the solid golf that the Commodores were counting on entering the season. Donnell finished the first day tied for 23rd place with an even-par 144. Sophomore Ben McClung rounded out the Vanderbilt competitors, finishing tied for 28th with a two-over-par score of 146.

The Commodores conclude the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions Tuesday morning.
