DeAndre Jones, who committed to Vanderbilt during the holiday break, confirmed last week that he is committed to Vandy, "I'm committed but I'm still looking at other schools, I guess you can say a 'soft verbal' or whatever you want to call it. Jones stressed that although he is committed to the Nashville school he is still looking at other options. Stanford has offered Jones and the new staff at Duke may be close to offering him.
Jones, who plans on majoring in Mechanical Engineering, had great things to say about the Commodore program, "My main thing that I know about Vanderbilt is that for one, I know that it's a growing program and it's getting very good. I believe they gave coach Johnson an extensive on his contract so I know that they have faith in him to build the program. I also have a very good relationship with coach Belin, my recruiting coach and the linebacker coach at Vanderbilt."
Jones visited Vanderbilt for the 2007 Vanderbilt basketball upset over Florida. He planned to visit Vandy over the weekend and a good visit could solidify his commit.
Jones was stellar performer on the football field for MUS in 2007. He finished his senior season with 70 tackles, 22 for loss, 8 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery returned for a touchdown and 1 interception. After the season Jones was selected as Pepsi's Best of the Preps and to the Varsity Sports Media's Tennessee Football Magazine Phenoms 32 All-State team. He was a finalist for the Titans Division II AA Mr. Football Lineman award and was also selected to VandyMania's Tennessee Super 44 team in July.
