Pete's Pigskin Prognostications- Week 9

With a little luck, last week was a pretty good one, picking-wise. I even picked out the two straight up underdogs who won, MSU and Florida. This week provides some interesting challenges, especially UTK-Alabama, one of those "throw the record books away" games. And I can't get away from the Big Orange hype in order to form an unbiased opinion..

Saying of the week: "Early to bed, early to rise, and your girl goes out with other guys."

As usual, I'm just picking winners, the spreads are included for your edification. (Home team Bold type.)

UT-Knoxville (-3) vs. Alabama – I'd rather wait an pick this a lot closer to game time, but it probably wouldn't make a difference. There are soooo many intangibles to this game, I think the game on the field will be won by whomever wins the game between the ears. The key is Clausen's status and sharpness after a 3-week layoff. Tennessee's at home and they've owned the Crimson Tide for the last 7 years. UTK by the thinnest of margins --- 1.

Georgia (-4) vs. Kentucky – No Musa is good Musa for the Wildcats, but Georgia has all the appearances of a "Team of Destiny" this year. Georgia by 7.

Arkansas (-8) vs. University of Mississippi – I didn't give the Razorbacks much respect earlier in the year, but they seem to have gotten stronger and stronger. Mississippi, on the other hand…….Pigs by 10.

LSU (-4) vs. Auburn – Two more teams going in opposite directions. As long as LSU players don't have to worry about pesky things like classes, they should handle the War Eagles, who seem to be in a screaming dive to nowhere. LSU by 7.

Vanderbilt (-7.5) vs. University of Connecticut – At the very least, the Commodores' defense won't have to deal with a runaway tractor-trailer on the way to the game. And they won't have to deal with trying to tackle a runaway tractor-trailer (Musa Smith) during the game. VU's offense is improving weekly and their defense can't be as bad as it seemed against Georgia. Vandy 35-13. Top Stories
