Head Coach Comments on Taylor Loftley

VandyMania.com talked with Chamblee high school head football coach Jim Showfety about defensive lineman Taylor Loftley, who committed to the Commodore program on Monday night. Look inside to find out about this outstanding Vanderbilt commit.

Jim Showfety, who was selected as the Georgia Sportswriter's Association's 2007 AAA Coach of the Year, commented on Taylor Loftley who is headed to Nashville.

Don Yates: When did Loftley commit?

Jim Showfety: "He took a visit a visit this past weekend and that's where he most felt at home. I found out two days ago."

DY: What did Loftley like about Vanderbilt?

JS: "He just felt like overall with the academic and athletic environment that it was probably just a good fit for him. I think he enjoyed the coaches that recruited him. I think when all is said and done he felt most at home there but I know he was real impressed with South Carolina also."

DY: How does the Vanderbilt staff plan to use him?

JS: "They are going to use him as an interior defensive linemen. They are going to try to put a little weight on him and use him inside."

DY: What makes Loftley a great player?

JS: "He's just a hard nosed player; he has got pretty good feet and pretty good speed. He's definitely a team leader, he was one of our captains. He's just got a lot of things that colleges look for not the least of which is his academic performance in the classroom. He's a very, very good student also. He's a real solid leader off the field.

DY: What were his stats in 2007?

JS: "In 14 games he had 32 solo tackles, 13 assists, 4 sacks, 9 TFL, 1 interception, 2 fumbles caused, 1 fumble recovered."
