David Paulsen Profile

After playing phone tag with the 6-4, 230 DE/LB, finally caught up with Walton High standout for a quick Q&A. Find out how Paulsen truly feels about the Commodores in this exclusive interview.

SM: What directed your attention towards Vanderbilt University?

DP: Well basically I am in the market for a school that is very high academically, and Vanderbilt is one of many schools that fit the mold. I've been pretty much looking at schools like them, Stanford, and Wake Forest

SM: So have they been expressing interest in you as well?

DP: Yes. They had the opportunity to look at my film. They like my size and my quickness for my size. They feel that I come off the ball pretty well at the defensive end position.

SM: Who has mainly been in contact with you from the Vanderbilt Coaching Staff?

DP: I've been talking with Coach Cain, the offensive coordinator for a pretty good while; off and on since the fall.

SM: Have you ever been to Vanderbilt for a visit?

DP: Yes, I have.

SM: What did you think about the area, campus, etc?

DP: The campus was very nice. It was easy to get around. It's like a little college town. Everything wass like right there in a small area.

SM: Have you ever experienced game day at Vanderbilt? If so, what did you think about it?

DP: Yes, I have. I went to a football game when they played against Georgia. I really like their stadium and their fans. It was very good, everything was really nice.

SM: Do you plan to visit Nashville sometime in the near future?

DP: I'm going to try to make it out to one of their camps this summer; probably a one-day camp. I may possibly go to the Spring Game if I don't have anything else going on that same weekend.

SM: Would you say that Vanderbilt is high on your list of favorites?

DP: Yes. I think they would definitely be in my top four/five right now.

SM: So, what are you looking for in a program?

DP: I want to go somewhere that is going to prepare me for life after college. It would also be nice to go to a school with a nice athletic program to go along with great academics. It would be nice to stay closer to home also.
