Goodpasture star commits to Vandy

Vanderbilt had a stellar afternoon as they picked up commitments from 2 very good players. Elliot Hood of Indianapolis, IN committed yesterday. The second commitment came a little bit closer to home as Madison, TN product Marcus Buggs decided he wants to stay close to home and play for the Commodores.

"He committed to Vanderbilt last night," said Goodpasture Head Coach David Martin. "Vanderbilt has been the best about staying on top of him early and really recruiting him hard. He likes the coaching staff, the education, and the chance to play in the SEC. He's real close with his family as well, and playing close to home is a big factor for him."

Buggs plays running back and corner for Goodpasture's 8-1 region championship team. He has rushed for 792 yards and 15 touchdowns on only 72 carries. "That's one of the good things going into the playoffs," added Coach Martin. "We're pretty fresh right now. Marcus hasn't had to carry the ball too many times, but look what he gets done when he does carry it. He had offers from Vanderbilt and Wake Forest, and Ole Miss, Louisville, and Memphis had told me that they were planning on offering him."

Buggs is solid to Vanderbilt, and his visit to Nashville on 11-2 will likely be the only official he takes. He is an excellent overall athlete that will likely get a first shot at running back, but could play in the defensive secondary as well. Top Stories
