William Ming Talks Vandy

Now that Signing Day 2008 has come and gone, the Vanderbilt coaching staff has been focusing heavily on their 2009 recruiting class. One prospect that they have chasing after early on is DE/TE William Ming. In fact the Commodores were one of the first programs to extend the 6-4, 250 pound two-way star a scholarship offer. Come inside with VandyMania.com and see how the Athens star feels about VU.

William Ming has four scholarship offers to his name, all courtesy of the SEC. The Athens High standout is currently holding on to scholarship offers from Alabama, Mississippi State, Auburn, and the Vanderbilt Commodores. Not bad, considering that fact that we haven't even reached that Evaluation Period.

Along with Ming's impressive list of offers, there are two other programs that may not be too far behind on the recruiting trail. Ming told VandyMania.com that Stanford and Tennessee have been expressing interest in him, and that they may be fairly close to offering him also. However, they will have their hands full with trying to beat out the Commodores for his services…

The Vanderbilt Coaching Staff made an early jump on Ming, and has been keeping close tabs on him since day one. "I think it was around the month of December, when they first offered me," Ming told VandyMania.com. "They have been staying in touch with me a lot. They have been writing me a bunch of letters. They have really been keeping me on top of things regarding the program."

There is one other advantage that the Commodores have, that the other programs do not… "The good thing about Vanderbilt is that it is only an hour and a half away, so it's pretty close to home," Ming said. "That's pretty much how I want it to be."

Ming also touched on something else he liked about Vandy's program. "They really have a great academic program," Ming said. "I am a pretty good student, so that is a pretty big thing for me. Right now I have a 3.95 GPA in the classroom. I made a 26 on the ACT the last time I took it back in October."

Ming does not currently have a favorite. He expressed to VandyMania.com that he is going to play things by ear, and that he will make his next move whenever he feels comfortable. Although you must admit, it almost sounds like distance could actually play an important role in his decision; therefore giving Vanderbilt the edge… However, it is a little too early to jump to any conclusions. Should things change within his recruitment, VandyMainia.com will certainly bring you up to speed.

Keep it locked right here Vandy fans as we continue to bring you the very latest recruiting news regarding DE/TE William Ming.
