The Commodores would get on the board again in the bottom of the seventh inning when a two out single by de la Osa scored Ryan French who reached on an error to lead off the inning.
Sporting a 3-0 lead heading into the ninth inning, the Commodores seemed poised for an easy win. The ninth inning would prove anything but easy. Drew Hayes relieved Sean Bierman who had struck out the side in the 8th inning. Hayes walked Jared Baehl and Ryan Fleming to lead off the inning. The Purple Aces then sent Brian Robinson to pinch hit for Sean Loggins. Robinson singled down the left field line scoring Baehl. The Commodores then sent Russell Brewer(1-0) into the game to relieve Hayes. Brewer forced the first batter he faced, pinch hitter *Kuester*, to ground into a fielder's choice that scored Fleming. Brewer struck out *Smith* for the second out of the inning before *Wallace* reached on an infield single to score Robinson and tie the game at 3. *Pascoe* then grounded out to end the ninth inning.
It did not take the Commodores long in their half of the inning to end the game. After *French* struck out to lead off the bottom of the ninth, Macias doubled to center field and *White* singled to right to give the Commodores a 4-3 victory.
Vanderbilt got a good effort from starting pitcher Caleb Cotham who pitched four scoreless innings. He gave up five hits, three walks and struck out five in a no decision.
The Commodores will play their first game of the Music City Classic Thursday against the Kansas Jayhawks at 4 p.m. at Hawkins Field.
