While Reid Fitzgerald was busy ripping it up on the gridiron last fall, several major programs were taking notice. The 6-1, 200 pound athlete has been attracting attention from several top programs throughout the country. "I've been getting general/common letters from various schools like Alabama, Kansas, Missouri, and lots of other programs," Reid said. "I've also gotten a couple of hand written letters from Colorado and Vanderbilt."
Reid is definitely no stranger to the Commodores. In fact, the Vanderbilt coaching staff had a chance to see him up close last year at one of their camp sessions. You see, while Reid was out on his adventurous journey last summer, one of his stops was in Nashville, TN. "I attended a Vanderbilt camp last summer," Reid said. "It was a good camp. It was kind of small, but I really enjoyed it. I think I learned a lot of things that's really been helping me along the way."
Although Reid thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the different camp activities at Vanderbilt, there was one particular thing that stood out to him while camping with the Commodores; interacting with the Vandy Coaching Staff... "I had a chance to meet and talk with some of the members from the coaching staff," Reid said. "I talked to the running back's coach and the head coach. I really like them a lot. They seem to be good christian men; good leaders."
Whenever Reid wasn't on the field displaying his skills in front of the coaching staff, he was busy trying to take a quick glance at the campus to see what he could gather in the spare time that he did have…"I walked around the campus a little bit, but I didn't get a chance to check it out in depth like I really wanted to," Reid stated. "I'd like to go out there again to get a good look at the campus. It will probably be sometime over the summer,"
Last fall Reid rushed for 2,100 yards and scored 20 rushing touchdowns. He also had around 200 yards receiving, and 1 touchdown reception. Academically speaking, he is currently sitting around a 3.4 GPA. He's taken his ACT, but has not received his scores yet. He is scheduled to take his SAT on March 1st.
