Photo Gallery: VU Women Celebrate Senior Day

After Vanderbilt's 83-54 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Dores honored Liz Sherwood, the team's only senior, in Senior Day festivities. Whitney D shares these photos from the celebration.

Unlike most college basketball programs that honor their seniors before the game, at Vanderbilt, the team's seniors are honored after the game. In Head Coach Melanie Balcomb's tenure at Vanderbilt, the team is now 6-0 in Senior Day games.

Sunday was unusual in that senior Liz Sherwood was honored before the game as well as after. Before the game, Liz was recognized for joining Vanderbilt's 1000-Point Club after scoring her 1000th point on the road at Arkansas last week.

In between the two ceremonies, a basketball game took place. In her final game at Memorial Gym, Liz scored seven points with three rebounds in 17 minutes of play.

Although the game turned out to be lopsided, Coach Balcomb sent Liz back into the game late. Then with seconds remaining, she subbed for her, giving fans the chance to cheer for her as she left the court of Memorial Gym for the final time.

When the final buzzer sounded, Vanderbilt had won the game 83-54. After the traditional hand-shaking line, Liz returned to the bench with teammates Jessica Mooney and Amber Norton.

First, there was a highlight film on the jumbotron showing highlights of Liz's career at Vanderbilt.

Next was the traditional "Time of Your Life" photo montage, that brought smiles to many faces, including Assistant Coach Vicky Picott, who coaches the post players, and freshman post Rebecca Silinski.

Joe "Voice of the Commodores" Fisher interviewed Liz at center court.

Next year's seniors, Tina Wirth and Jen Risper, listened intently.

Coach Balcomb presented Liz with a framed photo collage to commemorate her career at Vanderbilt.

Vice Chancellor David Williams, Liz, Coach Balcomb, and Liz's father Jim posed for photos.
