Baseball: Vandy Pounds Lipscomb 12-4

The Commodores used a seven run third inning to pound the cross-town Lipscomb Bisons 12-4 on Wednesday night at Hawkins Field. Vanderbilt was led by Alex Feinberg who was 2-2 with three walks, three RBIs and two runs scored.

The Bisons came out of the gate hot with two runs in the top of the first inning off of Vanderbilt starting pitcher Drew Hayes. Hayes pitched two innings and gave up two runs on two hits, three walks and three strikeouts.

Vanderbilt would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the first inning. David Macias led off the inning with a bunt single. He then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He would score on a balk by Bison starting pitcher Bowling.

The Commodores would blow the game open when they got seven runs in the bottom of the third inning with the big blow being a Feinberg two out double down the left line that scored Macias, Brian Harris and Brad French.

After the Bisons added a run in the top of the sixth inning, the Commodores got a run in the bottom of the sixth on a throwing error that scored Macias.

The Bisons would add another run in the top of the seventh. The Commodores would once again answer in the bottom of the inning when Parker Hanks scored on a single by Jonathan White to right field.

The Commodores would add two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on two out RBI hits by Ryan Flaherty and Dominic DeLaOsa.

Richie Goodenow (1-0) pitched one scoreless inning to get his first win of the season.

The Commodores will travel to Tuscaloosa this weekend to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide for their second Southeastern Conference series of the season. The Commodores will look to build on last weekend's 2-1 series win against South Carolina. The Crimson Tide is still in search of their first SEC win of the season after dropping all three games to the University of Kentucky last weekend in Lexington. Top Stories
