Vanderbilt's lead won not last long however. The Crimson Tide got four runs in the bottom of the first inning with three of those runs coming on a Kent Matthes home run to center field off Commodore starter Taylor Hill. Hill had a rough afternoon giving up seven runs in just four innings of work. He gave up five hits, one walk and struck out three.
The Crimson Tide would add another run on a solo home run by Alex Avila in the bottom of the third inning to push their lead to 5-1.
The scoring would continue for Alabama in the bottom of the fifth when they added two more runs on two hits. Hill would start the fifth inning but would not record an out. He was relieved by Russell Brewer. Brewer pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up 3 unearned runs on the afternoon.
Alabama would cap their ten run afternoon with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh inning.
