Vandy Falls to SEMO 12-8 in Alvarez's Return

The Commodores fell to Southeast Missouri 12-8 on Tuesday night at Hawkins Field. The game was not originally on the schedule, but the two teams agreed to play because they had both lost so many games to rain in this early season.

Even though the Commodores lost on Tuesday night, they got some good news with the return of Pedro Alvarez to the lineup. Alvarez had missed 23 games since suffering a broken bone in a game against Oregon State on February 22nd. He was 1-4 in his return with a double and two runs scored. Alvarez's return adds some extra firepower to the Commodores lineup.

The Redhawks got on the board first in the top of the third with three runs off Vanderbilt starting pitcher Taylor Hill. Hill (3-2) would only last 3 1/3 innings after giving up six runs on six hits.

The Commodores would get a run back on Ryan Flaherty's single to right field that scored Alvarez.

The Redhawks would add another three runs to push the lead to 6-1 in the top of the fourth on four hits.

The Commodores fought back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning. They got those three runs on just one hit.

After the Redhawks added another two runs in the top of the sixth, the Commodores would score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Redhawk lead to 8-6. The Redhawks would quickly take the momentum back by scoring four runs on four hits in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the game out of reach.

Vanderbilt got two hits from David Macias, Dominic de la Osa, Feinberg and Parker Hanks.

The Commodores will take the short trip to Murfreesboro on Wednesday night to take on the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State University. That game starts at 6 p.m. The Commodores will return to Southeastern Conference play on Friday night when they take on the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford. Top Stories
