Baseball: Commodores beat MTSU 6-5

The Commodores rallied from a 4-1 deficit on Wednesday afternoon in Murfreesboro to get a 6-5 win over the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State. Nick Christiani, Chase Reid and Russell Brewer combined to hold the Blue Raiders scoreless for the final 5 1/3 innings of the game.

"The story for us was the three guys who pitched in relief," said Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin. Christiani put a band-aid on it and shut them down. Reid came in and did yeoman work and Brewer threw strikes."

Christiani (2-1) got out of a two out jam in the bottom of the fourth when he forced Nathan Hines to fly out to left field. Reid did not give up any hits in his 1 1/3 innings of work and struck out two. Brewer came on for the ninth and shut down the Blue Raiders.

The Commodores got their first run of the day on Parker Hanks home run in the top of the second inning. The Blue Raiders would answer with three runs on just two hits in the bottom of the second. Vanderbilt would get two of those runs back in the top of the third when Jonathan White scored on a wild pitch and David Macias scored on Alex Feinberg's RBI walk.

The Commodores would score one run in the top of the fourth on a Dominic de la Osa single that scored Shea Robin. They would get another run in the top of the fifth on a Steven Liddle double to left center field that scored Feinberg. Vanderbilt's final run of the day would come in the top of the sixth on an RBI groundout by Pedro Alvarez that scored Macias.

Macias was the only Commodore to register a multi-hit game with two hits.

The Commodores will travel to Oxford this weekend for a big three game series with the Rebels of Ole Miss. First pitch for the Friday night game is scheduled for 6:30. Top Stories
