Visiting recruits get red-carpet treatment

Vanderbilt rolled out the red carpet last Saturday for over 50 visiting high school football prospects. Here's an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at what the day held for recruits, and a list of some of the visitors' names.

Vanderbilt rolled out the red carpet last Saturday for over 50 visiting high school football prospects.  The prospects were treated to a pre-game gathering in an luxurious suite/lounge at The Coliseum and a pre-game speech by Bobby Johnson and his assistants.  The players then received a backstage tour of the Coliseum and were allowed to watch warmups from field level, before being escorted to their seats for the game.

As the players arrived, they were escorted to one of The Coliseum's exclusive suite/lounges, where they could eat, relax and socialize before the game.  Johnson introduced Offensive Coordinator Ted Cain and Defensive Coordinator Bruce Fowler, who gave the recruits an exclusive, inside look into the team's gameplan for the day.

Then Johnson addressed the group.  "There are a lot of you here today, and it may be hard for us to get around to all of you," said Johnson.  "I know some of you have meetings set up with us later today.  The important thing is that you keep those lines of communication open.  If you ever have any questions about anything at all, be sure to call me or Coach Turner or the position coach who's recruiting you."

Players who were present for the Tennessee game and who have already made commitments to Vanderbilt included: Marcus Buggs, a 5-11, 190 running back from local Goodpasture High School; Johnny Edwards, a 5-10, 180 cornerback from Fayetteville-Starr's Mill, Ga; Elliot Hood, a 6-6, 250 offensive lineman from Indianapolis-Franklin Central, Ind.; Greg Jacobs, a 6-3, 255 defensive end from Fork Union Military Academy, Va.; and Lance Parker, a 6-2, 175 quarterback from Bryant, Ark.
