Vandy's offensive line has all new starters but according to Bobby Johnson this bunch is better than last year's. Johnson rarely stretches the truth so this is good news. Last year Vanderbilt outgained Miami on the ground 290-26. Vanderbilt may not be able to match last year's edge but they should be able to gain 200 yards on the ground on the RedHawks. Miami, like Vanderbilt, puts out some good linebackers. Seniors Clayton Mullins, Joey Hudson and junior Cableb Bostic are all on the Butkus Award watch list.

Vanderbilt gained only 121 yards last year through they air because they concentrated on running the ball because it was so effective. Chris Nickson will start but look for Mackenzi Adams to see significant action. Safeties Robbie Wilson and Jordan Gafford lead the RedHawk secondary.

Vandy's quickness on defense should keep Miami from gaining significant yardage on the ground. Players like Broderick Stewart and Steven Stone are stalwarts for the Commodores. Patrick Benoist will lead a sound group of linebackers. Miami lost its three running backs from a year ago. Sophomore Thomas Merriweather rushed for 143 yards last season.
