SC Cornerback Hears from Vanderbilt

On September 1st, college coaches were allowed to initially begin placing in their weekly telephone calls to '09 prospects. With that in mind, corner back Nick Carson was one of the selected few to receive a phone call from an up and coming SEC program, the Vanderbilt Commodores. Inside, brings you an in-depth look at Carson, one of the top cornerbacks from the Palmetto State.

Commodore fans meet Nick Carson, a 6-1, 180 pound cornerback from Hanahan High School. Carson is a cornerback prospect that the Commodores have been flirting around with since the April/May Evaluation Period. However though, things appear to be getting a little more serious between the Palmetto State star and Vanderbilt.

"I talked with Coach Ted Cain," Carson told in a recent interview. "He called me up and talked to me the other day. He said a lot of good things. He wants me to come up there soon to see a game and to visit the campus; stuff like that. He really wants me to send him a highlight tape as soon as possible. I'm trying to get one together for him now."

Last fall as a junior, Carson intercepted 10 passes and recorded 67 tackles from his corner back position for the Hawks. He went on to receive several honors/awards, and collected several pieces of hardware to add to his trophy case at the conclusion of last season.

After making such a huge statement on the field last fall, you would expect for opposing teams to throw away from Carson's side this season, right? Well, the '09 standout was put to the test on Hanahan's first defensive series of the '08 season, when the opposing team opted to throw the ball to his side of the field… Needless to say, it was picked off…

Not only is Carson an exceptional athlete on the football field, but he is also a standout for his high school track and field team. In fact he won the state championship in the high jump during his sophomore year, followed up by a 3rd place finish last spring in the state championship.

Nick is currently attracting attention from a number of programs across the country, but has yet to receive his first offer. However, that could certainly change once his highlight tape starts to circulate… "I wasn't able to get out any film from last season, so that set me back a little bit," Carson said "But, I'm positive that the offers will start coming in once I get my film out this season. I'm just ready to get things rolling. I would definitely love to get an offer from an SEC school like Vanderbilt. I'd probably commit on the spot to be honest with you." will continue to keep you posted on the relationship between CB Nick Carson and the Vanderbilt Commodores. Should an offer occur, we will certainly let you know, so keep it locked in right here for the very latest.

Rice Vistors

It was a good night for visits for the Vanderbilt coaching staff. Among the many visitors to watch the 38-21 Commodore victory over the Owls was Birmingham star Walker May and 3-star Colorado lineman Jack Harris. Harris had narrowed his choices to Oregon and Colorado in July but apparently is still visiting other schools.
