Vanderbilt Bowl Keys: Steven Stone

Steven Stone, a redshirt junior form Conway, Ark., is a figurehead on the Commodore defense line. If Vanderbilt is to be victorious in a bowl game they'll need a solid performance from Stone.

Stone came to Vanderbilt at 230 pounds but has bulked up to over 268 pounds since his freshman year. Stone had 4 1/2 career sacks when the 2008 season started. After the Wake Forest game that number had swelled to an impressive 10. Stone also had 25 other tackles for losses (non sacks) over his career.

Saturday night in Winston-Salem was a miserable one for most of the Vandy Nation but one of the bright spots was Steven Stone's sack of Deacon quarterback Riley Skinner for an 8-yard loss.

Stone's sharpest performance of the 2008 season came at Ole Miss. At Oxford the Economics major picked up 7 tackles, 1 sack, and one other tackle for a loss in helping propel the Commodores to a 23-17 win over the Rebels.

With the loss of fellow defensive end Broderick Stewart, who was injured during the Tennessee game, the Commodores will be counting on Stone to put pressure on their bowl opponent's quarterback. Stone has the size, strength and intensity to get the job done. VandyMania salutes defensive end Steven Stone.
