Vanderbilt ends skid with 82-75 win at Auburn

AUBURN-- Vanderbilt's Jermaine Beal scored 21 points on 7-of-7 shooting from 3-point range to lead his team to an 82-75 victory over Auburn. The win broke a four-game losing streak for the Commodores.

Vanderbilt jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and then coasted to a 38-25 lead with 3:44 remaining in the first half. However, the Tigers, behind the sharp shooting of guard Rasheem Barrett, rallied to pull to within 5 at the half, 41-36. Barrett would go on to finish with 29 points and made 5-of-10 from 3-point range.

In the second half, a pair of free throws by Barrett gave the Tigers their first lead of the game at 50-48 with 15:35 remaining in the game. However, Vanderbilt would rally to retake the lead on a Beal three with 14:26 remaining.

Auburn then re-took the lead with 7:34 remaining on a Tay Waller 3-point-shot. However, two Brad Tinsley made free throws put Vanderbilt back up, 62-61.

Vanderbilt built their lead to as much as 6 in the final moments of the game. Auburn then made it interesting by narrowing the lead to 77-75 after Lucas Hargrove made a 3-pointer with 1:23 remaining. However, Vandy's Brad Tinsley then drilled a quick trey for the Commodores on their ensuing possession to put his team up 80-75 with 36 seconds remaining. Auburn would never score another point.

With the victory Vanderbilt improves to 13-8 (2-5 SEC). The Commodores host Alabama on Thursday. Auburn falls to 13-8 (2-4 SEC).
