Vandy Becoming a Major Player with Allen?

This 2010 OLB prospect from out of Pahokee High School was set to make a decision on his college destination approximately two weeks ago. But apparently the 3-star prospect from the Sunshine State had a change of heart. Come inside to find out the very latest on the Pahokee head-hunter, and where the Commodores currently stand with him on the recruiting front.

Zachary Allen simply made his presence known on both sides of the ball for Pahokee High School last season. But where the 6-2, 185 pound prospect primarily made his living was on the defensive side of the ball, tallying up 50 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 10 quarterback sacks.

After a strong junior campaign on the playing field in ‘08, a host of schools began heavily pursuing the Sunshine State product, and eventually started throwing their hats into the ring for this signature. Before long the 3-star prospect saw his offer list grow to double-digits. "I have about 17 offers right now," Allen said. "Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Purdue, UCLA, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Louisville are the only ones I can think of right now."

After pondering over his impressive list of offers, Allen felt the urge to take his recruitment to the next level by eliminating a number of schools and coming up with a short list of favorites. "Basically I had narrowed it down to six schools," Allen said. "Those schools were Wake Forest, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Purdue, and Vanderbilt."

Shortly after trimming down his list of programs, Allen felt like he was ready to make his final decision, based upon the six finalists from his short list. So the Pahokee star went ahead and set up a date to announce his final decision; June 1st. But the rising senior had a change of heart. "I decided to postpone my decision," Allen told "I need to take some more visits and get some more information on more schools. I don't want to make a mistake by making a quick decision."

According to recent publishing(s) on the Network, Wake Forest was believed to be Allen's top choice. Is this still the case? "Yes sir," he replied. "Wake Forest is still on top."

So where does that put Vanderbilt? "Vanderbilt is second right now," Allen said. "I really like their style of play, and the fact that they play in the SEC. The SEC is one of the toughest conferences in the country. Their coaches are very friendly too. They seem like they are really down to earth. We have a pretty good connection. They also have a good educational program there."

Zachary has never been to Vanderbilt for a visit, but he intends to make it up there sometime this summer. Could an overwhelming trip up to Nashville put the ‘Dores on top? I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Stay tuned with for much more on this high-profiled target from out of the Sunshine State.
