Memphis star wants Vandy offer

Jonathan Brown is one of the heaviest recruited linebackers in the state of Tennessee. He already holds offers from LSU, Ole Miss, Memphis, Illinois, Texas Tech and others. One school that Brown would like an offer from is Vanderbilt and there's a chance an offer could come.

On Saturday Christian Brothers high school opened their 2009 season with a big 20-14 victory over cross-town opponent Melrose. In that game, in limited offensive action, star Jonathan Brown had a 1-yard rushing touchdown. As a linebacker he finished the game with 9 tackles and intercepted a pass, which, if not for a penalty, he could have returned for a 70-yard score.

Brown's a popular player with college coaches. He already has offers from LSU, Ole Miss, Illinois, Texas Tech, Memphis, Middle Tennessee and Southern Miss.

One team Brown would like an offer from is Vanderbilt. When asked what he thought about possibly getting an offer from Vanderbilt, he replied," That would be really good." He says he hears from Vandy fairly often. Commodore linebackers coach Warren Belin emails him occasionally and checks up on him. Brown says he last heard from Belin about two weeks ago. The outstanding linebacker says he is attracted to Vanderbilt's great academics along with the chance to compete in the SEC.

Brown also knows about Vanderbilt's growing tradition of linebackers from Memphis. He knows DeAndre Jones and has heard of both Chris Marve and John Stokes. Another other VU player that he's familiar with is Whithaven's Chavez Scott who walked on at Vanderbilt and is presently a reserve tailback for the Commodores.

Brown could very well get his wish. Vanderbilt is believed to be looking to sign two linebackers for the 2010 recruiting crop. None have committed so far so Brown might just get his Commodore offer.

Brown plans to commit after the season. He says that Illinois is currently his favorite.

Next up for Jonathan Brown and his Christian Brothers team is a tough match up with Germantown on Friday.
