Football Recruiting: Brian Stamper Q&A

VandyMania talked with Orlando, Fla., Lake Highland Preparatory School offensive lineman Brian Stamper, (6-6, 265), who was heavily recruited by several top programs but chose to go with Vanderbilt. Stamper gives us his reasons for choosing the Commodores plus other interesting information.

VandyMania: Brian, thanks for taking the time today to answer a few questions. What were some of the programs that were recruiting you?
Brian Stamper: Duke, Rutgers, Florida, and South Carolina

VandyMania: What programs had offered you a scholarship?
Brian Stamper: Florida, Duke, VanderbiltIllinois and South Carolina.

VandyMania: What are some of the reasons you chose Vanderbilt? 
Brian Stamper: It's got a great location, coaching staff and team. A chance to make history!

VandyMania: What coach recruited you for Vanderbilt? 
Brian Stamper: Jimmy Kiser [Quarterbacks coach].

VandyMania: What are some of the things the Vanderbilt staff told you regarding your future role on the team? 
Brian Stamper: They told me I would have the opportunity to play offensive tackle my freshmen year.

VandyMania: Please describe for us your greatest day as a football player while playing at the high school level? 
Brian Stamper: The night we won the District Championship and became Regional
Sub-Final Champions.

VandyMania: How do you feel about facing your home state Florida Gators?
Brian Stamper: I am excited and look forward to the challenge.

VandyMania: How much can you bench press, squat and power clean? What is your 40 time?
Brian Stamper: I bench 350, squat 500 and power 285.  My 40 time is 4.9.
