PASSING OFFENSE
F
Total failure here. Going 0-for-9 passing in a half is inexcusable. The quarterback had problems all night passing and set some of his receivers up to be absolutely killed. No wonder they have problems catching the ball. Horrible, embarrassing performance in most every aspect of the passing offense: Quarterback, line and receivers. Vanderbilt is the laughing stock of the SEC again thanks to their clueless passing game.
RUSHING OFFENSE
C+
Vanderbilt did decent job running the ball. Warren Norman continues to impress and had a long, 48 yard run. He finished with 86 yards rushing in 14 attempts. Nice job not giving up a safety on a bad snap into the end zone. Jared Hawkins also looked solid running and finished with 54 yards in 10 carries.
PASSING DEFENSE
C
Nice job getting three picks on Snead but Vandy gave up too many big plays passing to the Rebels, particularly in third and long situations.
RUSHING DEFENSE
B-
Vandy allowed 160 yards rushing to the Rebels. This isn't too bad considering they were on the field for 35 minutes. Brent Trice was all over the field and finished with a team leading 14 tackles for Vandy.
SPECIAL TEAMS
D+
Some good returns by Vandy and some great punting by Brett Upson, however, the field goal kicking game was a failure. While Vanderbilt opponents are 8-for-8 on field goal attempts for the season Vandy is just 5-of-9. This will help to lose football games and needs to improve.
COACHING
F
Poor coaching all around on both sides of the ball but especially the offense. Why do some players come out of the game when they are having problems but others are left on the field when they are struggling? Meanwhile veterans at that position, who have been successful in the past, sit on the bench and aren't given a chance. The offense is absolutely terrible, the players again weren't prepared for this football game. It's true a coach can't catch, tackle or throw a pass but they recruit these players and are responsible for preparing them to have success in games.
OVERALL GRADE
D
It was a total embarrassment on national television. The offense is absolutely clueless when going against an SEC opponent. They'll do well on Saturday against Army but then what will happen the following week against Georgia? Hopefully not more of the same.
