"The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's the way to bet." -- Damon Runyon. Nightmare week for pigskin pickers. Every game on the slate this week could go either way. The most lopsided game on the slate is VU – Army at 12.5 points, and we all know how much it means to have a Vandy team favored.

LAST WEEK (5-2)-----OVERALL (34-8)

Auburn @ Arkansas – Two of the three surprises (MSU the other) of the SEC square off. Arkansas is primed for the win, but Auburn will have none of it. Plainsmen 30 – Pigs 27

Georgia @ UTK – Georgia can score….Tennessee can't. UGA 24 – UTK 17.

Kentucky @ South Carolina – South Carolina's main chicken (Garcia) has improved steadily this year. Too much for the Mildcats. Gamecocks 27 – UK 14.

Houston @ Mississippi State – Cowbells will be too much for the Cougars down in Starkville. MSU 21 – Houston 14.

Alabama @ Mississippi – The Rebs will get their second dose of harsh reality this Saturday as the Tide comes calling. Once again Snead will find it difficult to throw the ball in the face of an aggressive defense, whose speed will take away the easy out routes he was given by Vandy. Tide 28 – Mississippi 17

Florida @ LSU – Will he or won't he? I'm betting on Willie. Tim is tough, and it will be difficult to keep him out. Hopefully he won't injure anything further, except for LSU's pride. Gators 34 – LSU 20

Vanderbilt @ Army – The Commodores' defense should be able to pretty much stifle the Cadet's offense by controlling the line. That's sure death for an option team like Army. The real question is whether the VU offense can manage to stumble into the end zone enough to win. Vandy fans better enjoy this game, as the next week will start a six-game losing streak. VU 14 – Army 7.
