Leading just 38-34 with 15 minutes remaining in the game, the Commodores went on a 24-0 run that lasted over 10 minutes. The Silverswords finally ended their drought with 4:30 remaining on a 3-point shot by Shane Hanson. At that point Vanderbilt led 62-37 and the Commodores had the game in full control. John Jenkins made 4-of-6 3-pointers to lead the Commodores in scoring. Jermaine Beal added 10 and Jeff Taylor had 9.
Vanderbilt will now play Arizona (3-1), who defeated Colorado, 91-87, on Tuesday. Arizona lost to Wisconsin on day one of their tourney, 65-61. The Wildcats, led by point guard Nic Wise, are a team loaded with 3-point shooters. Against Colorado, Arizona combined to make 14-of-24 treys with Wise making 5-of-9 and scoring 30 points. The Commodores and Wildcats will tip off at 6:00 p.m. CT. (ESPNU).
In other tourney news, Cincinnati who beat Vanderbilt 67-58 on Monday, defeated No. 22 Maryland on Tuesday, 69-57. Gonzaga defeated Wisconsin, 74-61, in the other winners bracket game on Tuesday night. Gonzaga and Cincinnati will play for the championship on Wednesday.
