Smyrna linebacker to visit Vanderbilt

Deon Meadows is one of those special players who, very early in the recruiting season, have already garnered several offers from FBS schools. One school that Meadows is very interested in is Vanderbilt. He'll being visiting the Commodore program on Saturday.

"I hear from them (Vanderbilt) every now and then. I've gotten a couple of visits from them at my school," said middle linebacker Deon Meadows of Smyrna high school. Meadows continued, "I'm gonna make a junior day up there, I think this Saturday."

Meadows has already gained offers several FBS schools including one of the SEC type, Arkansas. In addition to the Razorbacks, Ohio and Middle Tennessee have also offered the speedy player.

Meadows is a family man and mentioned "family" several times during his interview with One of the top things he likes about Vanderbilt is that it's close to home, "I like that it's close to home so I can check on my family."

When asked what he was looking for in a school, Meadows replied, "I have to step on the campus and get that feeling that's its my second home. I have to trust the coaches to put me in a good position and hopefully put my family in a good position. Hopefully I'll see some playing time."

Meadows, who had 138 tackles as a junior, feels that he is a smart, coachable player who is also a good leader, "I'm a smart player. I put my team in a good position and I'm fast. I make good calls. I learn fast; if you tell me not to do something, I'm not going to do it. I'm a good leader."

Meadows, who earned All-District honors and led Rutherford County in tackles, runs the forty in 4.5 seconds. He also runs track, competing in the 4X1, 4X2 and open 2 events. He would like to run the 100 and says that he has been timed at 10.11 in that event.

Meadows, who says he is taking core classes, has taken the SAT and is awaiting his scores.
