SC WR to Camp with Vandy Again this Summer

This Palmetto State sleeper enjoyed camping with the ‘Dores so much last year that he plans to take another trip up to Nashville this summer…

"Oh yeah, I'll definitely be going there again this summer," North Augusta (SC) wide receiver prospect, Jessie Pernell, told VandyMania in a recent interview. "I really had a great time out there last year. It was a great experience."

Jessie Pernell shared that he'd never partaken in a camp that was hosted by a college or university. So initially, he felt a little uncertain as to how well he'd perform. But once the Palmetto State star got into the flow of things, he felt like he held his own against several of the athletes in attendance... "There was a lot of competition at the camp last year," Pernell said. "And I thought I competed very well against them, to say it was my first time ever attending a camp."

While Pernell was on campus last summer, he didn't have much time to check things out quite like he had desired. But he hopes to do so this summer, whenever he returns to Nashville for another camp session with the ‘Dores. "I really didn't get around the campus that much last summer," Pernell shared. "But I was able to see most of the athletic facilities. They were really nice. Hopefully I'll have a chance to see more of the campus this summer."

Pernell informed us that the Vanderbilt coaches have not been expressing a great deal of interest in him early on. But he is certainly hoping for all of that to change, being that Vanderbilt is a school that he is very high on.

"I'm very interested in Vanderbilt," the 6-1, 170 pound wideout said, "Vanderbilt is definitely a school that I wouldn't mind going to. They play in the SEC which is the toughest conference, and they have great academics. And their uniforms are the same colors as my high school uniform. So that's also a plus (laughing)."

Last fall Pernell Hauled in 44 receptions for 478 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. He received All-Region honors (5-AAAA), and was named to the All-Area 1st Team by the local newspaper for his area, The Aiken Standard.

Pernell is also a solid performer inside of the classroom. The rising senior is currently holding down a 3.5 overall GPA, and has a 3.0 core GPA. And as far as his test scores are concerned, the talented student-athlete reports a 970 (Math/Critical Reading) on the SAT, and a 22 on the ACT.

Should things get a little more serious between Pernell and the ‘Dores in the future, we will certainly let you know...
