Farewell to two unforgettable seniors

Vanderbilt women's basketball fans will bid an emotional farewell Sunday afternoon to seniors Chantelle Anderson and Ashley McElhiney.  The two seniors will participate in their final game before the Memorial Gym crowd, as the No. 17 Commodores host No. 4 LSU at 2 p.m. CST.

Fans without tickets can gain free admission to Sunday's game by donating a children's book at the door.  The children's books will be donated to the Charles Davis Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering inner-city youth.

McElhiney, a 5-6 point guard from Gleason, Tenn., is Vanderbilt's all-time leader in assists and a member of the 1,000-point club.  Anderson, a 6-6 center from Vancouver, Wash., has garnered an impressive array of accolades, including 2002 SEC Player of the Year, 2002 Kodak All-American, and 2002 Tennessee Amateur Athlete of the Year.

Together McElhiney and Anderson have contributed to one of the school's most successful four-year periods in history.  The Commodores sport a record of 93-38 the last four seasons, including consecutive Elite Eight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

With a win over LSU, the Commodores (18-8, 8-5 in the SEC) hope to improve their seeding for next week's SEC Tournament, as well as avenge an earlier defeat to the Tigers (24-2, 11-2).  Coach Melanie Balcomb's charges lost to LSU 70-59 in Baton Rouge on Jan. 26.

The Tigers (ranked fourth in both polls) tied a school record earlier this week with their 24th win of the season.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early in order to take part in the pregame ceremonies honoring Anderson and McElhiney.  Also, local musicians Marshall Chapman, Ashley Cleveland and Emmylou Harris are scheduled to sing the national anthem.

The game is scheduled for regional television on Fox Sports South.
