California QB discusses Vandy camp

Vanderbilt has already picked up a quarterback commit for the 2011 recruiting class but that didn't stop South Pasadena quarterback Conor Bednarski from making the long trip to Nashville for the Vanderbilt camp on Sunday. Look inside to find out how Bednarski did at the camp.

Conor Bednarski flew into Nashville on Saturday with his father, John, hoping to earn a scholarship offer from the Commodore staff. That was a tall order considering Vanderbilt has already lined up the services of Damien Fleming of Jacksonville, Florida.

At the Vandy camp Bednarski and 21 other (including 8 seniors) Commodore quarterback hopefuls were taken through drills by Vanderbilt assistant coach Jimmy Kiser. "We did some individual stuff with the quarterback coach Kiser. We did some footwork and finished up with some 1-on-1," said Bednarski.

Bednarski, who ran a 4.7 forty, was one of the sharpest quarterbacks at the camp and Kiser complimented his quarterbacking skills. However, in the end despite the Southern California quarterback's fine performance no offer was extended, "It sounded like they wanted to offer me but just didn't have a spot." Bednarski said that the Commodore coaches told him they'd keep him in mind if something suddenly were to open up.

Bednarski liked Nashville but the humidity was something that caught him by surprise, "You walk outside and you feel like you just stepped out of the shower." Several west coast schools are interested standout signal caller so he may not have to endure that one drawback of the southeast.

San Jose State is the school that Bednarski feels is closest to offering him but he thinks that Mike MacIntyre's staff wants to wait and "see how it goes in the fall".

Bednarski will be camping at UC-Davis this weekend. Bednarski has already camped at Cal where he caught the attention offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig. Bednarski believes that if he doesn't get an offer from the Bear staff that he might be invited as a preferred walk-on.
