Bernstein Plans Career as Strength Coach

Well, it is no longer a secret. Crystal Lake South offensive lineman, Jake Bernstein, brought his recruitment to an end approximately a week ago after verbally pledging to join the Vanderbilt Commodores. caught up with the 3-star prospect to find out exactly why he will be taking his game to Nashville next fall.

The Vanderbilt Commodores picked up another offensive lineman for their 2011 recruiting class in the form of a 6-foot-4, 275 pound prospect out of Crystal Lake, Illinois. We are talking about 2011 offensive guard prospect Jake Bernstein.

The 3-star OG prospect according to chose Vanderbilt over offers from Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Colorado, Central Michigan, Wyoming, Northern Illinois, Memphis, and Arizona. Why Vanderbilt, we asked the gifted athlete?

"I would have to say academics and the strength coach," Bernstein told "When I get older I want to be a strength coach, and I think Coach [John] Sisk (Vanderbilt's Director of Speed, Strength & Conditioning) is a really great guy. On top of that, their academics are unreal. They also play football in the SEC, and of course the competition is great in the SEC."

Bernstein informed VandyMania that his early decision took a huge load off of his shoulders. "It feels much better to have my commitment out of the way," the big OL said. "It was one of the main things I wanted to do before the beginning of the season. Now I can focus on football and my school work. I am very happy I got it out of the way. It's very relieving"

From the sound of things, Bernstein wasn't the only one who was relieved after he made his decision. Apparently, it brought a sigh of relief to the Vandy coaching staff as well. "They were very happy when I told them I was ready to commit," he said. "They were really looking for lineman, so they were all happy when I told them the news. I probably talked to every coach on the team (laughing). They were very excited."

Congratulations to the Vanderbilt coaching staff on a great pick-up for their 2011 recruiting class.

Keith Heitzman Commits is reporting that Vanderbilt has also gotten a commit from 3-star defensive end, Keith Heitzman. Heitzman plays for defending Ohio state champion Hilliard Davidson high school. Heitzman also had offers from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Central Michigan. As a junior Heitzman had 13 sacks and earned All-OCC Ohio Division honors.
