The July open evaluation periods for college coaches often bring about changes in the recruiting picture, the emergence of new names and the disappearance of some. Here are some interesting changes in the Villanova basketball recruiting picture based on events of the past couple days.
Eli Brooks has been making a name for himself this spring and summer and now sees his recruitment picking up considerably. Villanova has been evaluating him extensively. He is a true point guard with quickness, court vision and a jump shot that requires defenders to play out on him. The Wildcat staff offered him this weekend while observing his play at Hoop Group Summer Jam Fest in Manheim PA.
Here are some highlights of Eli Brooks:
VUSports has learned through two sources that the Villanova coaching staff is zeroing in more on Jermaine Samuels than ever before. Samuels has added some consistency to his jumper to go along with his high motor, athleticism and ability to play up-tempo. Expect to see him visit Villanova in August and remain a prime candidate to sign with the Cats in November.
Villanova is heavily recruiting potential Spring commit, Trevon Duval. Duval finishes competing today with WeR1 in the Under Armour Association finals in Emerson, Ga. Widely recognized as the top point guard in his class, Duval would fit perfectly in Jay Wright's offense.
The number one prospect on the 'Nova Class of 2017 wish list remains Lonnie Walker. He finished up participation in the Victor Oladipo Skills Camp yesterday.
Lonnie Walker highlights:
Hameir Wright has reported that he will reclassify to the Class of 2018 by taking a prep year after completing his Senior year in 2017. He is now a prime forward target for Villanova in the Class of 2018 - a stretch-4.
