Running out of gas here in Spain – it’s been a great week in Spain, but it’s time to head back to the US. Madrid is a truly amazing city on many levels and the Real Madrid training site is really amazing. The Champs played a weaker team, made up of a couple semi-pros and lighter players from there. They were overmatched from start to finish, and the Champs rolled to an 84-58 victory that was never competitive. The games have taken on a pretty similar feel as we have played teams we are better than, we are coached better than – and we hammer them. Hard to get a good read on the Champs playing true “cupcake city”!
A. This is one of our most athletic Villanova teams ever. Hart, Bridges and Paschall bring an athleticism that is special.
B. I can’t count how many times one of the Spanish players thought they had a rebound, only to have Hart, Bridges or Paschall jump over them and snatch it away
C. Our guards didn’t have their best games. The Spanish guards competed hard and limited Phil and Jalen to a combined 5 points!
D. Paschall played his best game as he outmatched his Spanish counterparts. 21 points in 23 minutes is impressive. He did it with an inside/outside effort – making threes and giving us a presence in the paint.
E. Bridges was terrific – Hart was dominant. Hart looks like a clear BE POY and First Team candidate. He is not nice out there – got into a shoving match with a big from Spain and Jay sat him the last 12 minutes of the game.
F. There can’t be any teams with four forwards as good as Hart/Jenkins/Bridges and Paschall. The guards are talented – the centers are talented, but the forwards will really be the ones to stir the drink…
G. Jay is the man. I will say it again – he is underappreciated. He is coming into his prime – enjoy the ride!!
