Villanova vs. Towson Preview

VUSports previews Saturday's CAA opener against Towson at Villanova Stadium ...

Villanova (ranked #21 Stats FCS and #18 FCS Coaches) faces Towson in the CAA opener for both teams on Saturday at 3:30 PM

Both teams won competitive home games to bounce back from season-opening losses at FBS opponents.  The Cats strengths so far have been solid defense, a strong running attack and quality punting while struggling both throwing the ball and with place-kicking.  Towson has an explosive offense with Senior, RB, Darius Victor; FB, Emmanuel Holder and last week's CAA Offensive Player of the Week, WR, Christian Summers.

Towson starting QB, Morgan Mahalak may or may not start after being injured in last week’s win over St. Francis (PA).  Ellis Knudson played well off the bench and is anticipated to be prepared to play effectively in a starting role if needed.

Andy Talley shared some thoughts on Towson earlier this week, saying “Towson is a really physical football team.  Darius Victor is just an awesome player and then you have to deal with Emmanuel Holder who is 265 pounds at the fullback spot.  They come after you that is a downhill football team. I don't know who their quarterback is going to be but it didn't seem to matter when the second guy came in because they played pretty well.  Towson has a lot of balance, they can run and throw but when it gets down and dirty they come after you and Victor is just a tremendous running back.  I think that we have to come up with a way to slow their running game down - you are not going to stop their running game but you have to try to slow it down a little bit.  From the defensive standpoint, they can run their kids on defensive can all run and they are very very impressive.  I have always been impressed with the athleticism of Towson's football team.  They are really quality kids that love playing football and they bring it.  They definitely bring it.  We are going to have to be ready to play our best.
